Hi,

I am new to woodworking and i’m looking to start making cabinets. I have read quite articles and watched a lot of videos. I believe I have the proper tools to get started, but lack information. I was going to start by practicing and make cabinets for my garage. Is it OK to start with pine for my garage cabinets. One of my biggest questions is with the strecher/nailer panel that runs across the back of the cabinet. What material is best for this. I’ve seen guys use solid boards for it but I also been told it’s best to use a plywood there, something about less likely to split under load. Then the size, is a 4” board good enough or should it be the complete back. And what thickness. I may be over thinking it. I’m just trying to understand what load the cabinets I make can take.

Thank you
